Stress Awareness Month has been held every April since 1992 to raise awareness around the causes and cures for the modern stress epidemic. Stress is something that everyone experiences on some level at some point of their lives. Not only adults can suffer from stress but also children, their sources of stress and response to it just are different. Symptoms of stress in children may manifest in forms of lack of attention, change of mood, exaggerated responses in relation to the circumstance,  change in their eating habits, performance anxiety and low interest in general. Organic symptoms such as headaches and stomachaches are also indications of stress.

Left unchecked, long-term stress can contribute to a long list of physical and mental health problems by for example weakening the immune system. Chronic stress can lead to anxiety and depression – disorders that are becoming more common in youth. Therefore breaking the stress cycle or even better preventing stress is crucial. Parents and other adults can help children respond to stress in healthy ways. However, how can we support children’s emotional and mental well-being by reducing their stress in the first place?

Discovering new things and experiencing success builds self-confidence and contributes to children’s emotional well-being. Yet, study-related stress is one of the factors adding to children’s daily pressures. From kindergarten to secondary school, children play and learn new concepts every day. Sometimes it can get overwhelming and it is important for parents and educators to identify and understand the ways in which they can help children to cope better, especially with learning. It is said that school is children’s work, and this should be taken into account when we plan educational activities. Learning can be facilitated through the use of digital-based educational toys. In this way, children can look forward to the school time, instead of stressing about it.

This is why technologies such as those developed by Osmo can accompany children’s growth and education, stimulating creativity through play and introducing useful knowledge in a healthy and effective way. Osmo games are interactive educational toys that come to assist in stress-free learning. Many children are too busy to have time to play creatively or relax after school. Osmo combines learning and playing in a meaningful and absolutely fun way. This way the learning doesn’t overburden children but gives them a joyful experience while STEM skills develop almost imperceptibly. Real-time audio and visual feedback allow children to learn through experimentation in a stress-free environment. With Osmo, learning can happen at home or in the classroom.

Osmo has a variety of options that offer something to every little learner. For example

Creative Starter Kit is a game that blends your real-life doodles with on-screen action to nourish the artist in a child. It fosters endless imagination and is relaxing and fun.

Coding Starter Kit is a hands-on coding game for children of ages 5-10. Watch your child learn to code as they connect colorful blocks of code in the physical world to chart the adventure on their screen.
